ABOUT TERRA FIRMA
Inspired by the sun-warmed landscape of Puglia in southern Italy, Terra Firma draws on memories of a few quiet weeks spent in the small towns of Cisternino and Ostuni..
I remember the ancient stone walls, olive trees, wandering goats and fields of hay-coloured grasses. The landscape was dry and sparse, yet deeply beautiful. There was a particular stillness to being there — a feeling of time slowing, of being immersed in the land and gently restored by it.
This work holds something of that experience: an earthy connection to place, the quiet beauty of the natural world, and the feeling of having nowhere else to be.
Terra Firma is part of a pair, alongside Terra Divina. Created at the same time, the two works share a palette and a connection to the landscape of Puglia, Italy. They can be shown together and look lovely as a complementary pair.
